At Dr. C.V. Pandey on 3rd March 2002: -
Dr. Pandey was consulted for acute dry cough and pain in the entire lower part of the chest.
16th April 2002 at Dr. Atul Kumar Roy DM:-
It was getting difficult to go to SGPGI every time so I consulted Dr. Atul Kumar Roy DM of Nishat Hospital Lal Bagh Lucknow on 16th April 2002 who is a nationally recognized neurologist and expert in diagnosing and treating Parkinson's disease. He added a new drug Ropark 0.25 called Dopamine agonists used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease, three times daily along with a tab Zolfresh for sleeping. The other prescription was the same as SGPGI except for Sinemet plus which was replaced by Syndopa 110-1.5-1.5-1 three times a day (16)
Levodopa-induced jerky involuntary movement of arms, legs, and body in on position had somewhat started by now. (Which is called Dyskinesia)
Sometimes it happened that the dose of Sinemet did not work. She did not come in on position after taking Sinemet. It became a problematic position as she could not move. Sometimes after giving the dose of Sinemet instead of coming in on position there was a reaction of Sinemet as she then had a violent movement in the body with a continuous tremor of hand and feet with rigidity. The reason for this reaction was not known. She had constipation generally so I prepared for missa atta. (one part of wheat and one part Bengal gram). The roti of this atta was given during lunch. The next day she had a reaction with a dose of Sinemet. It was so violent that the two ladies had to hold her hands and feet as both hands and feet were twisting with tremors with unbearable pain. (continuous weeping). I went to Dr. Rai who suggested skipping the other dose and to give a sleeping dose. I then changed all medicines and bought fresh ones. The same thing repeated the other day as well though I gave ½ Sinemet instead of one. Suddenly I had an idea to stop the roti of missa atta and was surprised to see that there was no reaction. This gave me the idea to search for the reasons as she had an allergy to some eatable products regarding protein items. Channa has maximum protein which reacts with Sinemet.
Now I was in search of a food composition table of all cereals, milk & milk items, pulses, fruits, vegetables, and other miscellaneous items.
Some low-grade fever with pain in the lower part of the chest was going on with my wife for which I consulted Dr. Vikram Mehta on 1st June 2002 who suggested a CT scan of the upper abdomen (17) which revealed a soft tissue density lesion in the chest wall a very complicated problem and F.N.A.C. was advised (18).
Though Dr. Vikram Mehta started medication for Tuberculosis, yet he suggested consulting Tata Memorial Centre Bombay as her F.N.A.C. was not possible in Lucknow. I called my elder son Sameer who was in the U.S.A. at that time. He took an appointment at Tata Memorial Hospital Bombay on 24th June 2002. Proper tests were done in the hospital and Dr. Sanjay Sharma who was looking after my wife in a Letter to Dr. Vikram Mehta suggested that investigation including FNAC confirmed to be Tuberculosis (cold abscess) and advised Dr. Mehta to continue treatment (19).
Since my son Sameer who came back from the USA was in service at Pune, we shifted to Pune from Tata Memorial Center Bombay. There is a reputed Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital & Research Center in Pune so we decided to consult some Neuro physicians there as the medicines of TB was interacting with the medicine of Parkinson's. The rigidity of the whole body with a great tremor was felt whenever the TB medicine was taken by my wife.
On 5th July 2002, Dr. Rahul Kulkarni DM in neurology was consulted. The main medicine Sinemet 125 was to be taken 5 times a day to counter the effect of TB medicines with a sleeping tab of Zolfresh 5 mg in the night and the rest of the prescription was the same as per Dr. Atul Roy or Dr. Pradhan of SGPGI of Lucknow (20). I changed the medicine Sinemet 125 to Sinemet 110 myself as Sinemet 125 did not suit my wife and on the next visit on 9th October 2002, the same was changed in the prescription.
During our stay at Pune, we visited Shirdi SAI BABA temple which is situated about 207 km from Pune which was a 4-hour journey. We went there by car with a short break in between. There was a long queue of thousands of devotees to attain the divine blessing of Sai Baba. We also stood in the queue for our turn. It took about 2 long hours of waiting to reach the statue and the Samadhi. After Darshan, we returned on the same day with a break in between though it was very tiresome for a patient with Parkinson's disease but she managed confidently with the help of minor adjustments of medicines and family help. By this time, it was quite sure to me that there is no treatment in allopathy to cure Parkinson's disease so I returned to Lucknow for the treatment of TB & Parkinson's.
