About Basanti Bhargava

Updated: Jan 4, 2023

A brief narrative of Smt Basanti Bhargava (also known as Rashmi) before the disease:

Born on 27th November 1946, at Aligarh (U.P.), her father, Sri Kaushal Kishore Bhargava was a big transporter of Aligarh. She did her graduation in the year 1966 from Agra University (Teekaram Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Aligarh) having Indian Music (Instrumental) as a special subject. Later on, she did Visharat in Tabla in the year 1973. She also took part in N.C.C. as Lance Corporal and passed certificate A during her college time. Our marriage was performed on 8th Dec 1966.

I, Suresh Chandra Bhargava, her husband, am an Engineer from the University of Roorkee and the writer of her biography. She also did her Beautician Diploma course at Shahnaz Husain’s Woman’s World International (Beauty Institute) New Delhi in the year 1986.

Before developing Parkinson's Disease, she had good health doing all household chores like cooking, stitching, gardening, farming, playing tabla at many functions and also working as a Beautician. She also did the makeup of our colleagues’ daughters during their marriages. She had lived in different places with me i.e., the Kalagarh project (in dist. Bijnor) for 8 years, in Budaun for 6 years, in Moradabad for 5 years, at Tehri project for 1 year, in Meerut for 3 years, in Shahjahanpur for 3 years after which we shifted to Lucknow in the year 1988. Shifting to different places was due to my govt. service as an Engineer in the Irrigation Department in U.P.

During my first posting at Kalagarh Project, she mastered the art of specialized veg cooking as we had an officer's club of 400 officers, and many events were organized in which she took an active part. I remember that during a visit of India’s President Dr. V.V.GIRI, she played Tabla during the welcome songs. Even today, my colleague's wives often remember her for her specialized dishes. During those days, she also developed herself for gardening and farming. Later on, at Meerut and Shahjahanpur, she did farming by involving in sowing, harvesting, and threshing, and produced around 20 quintals of wheat and 5 quintals of rice along with cultivating many vegetables as well. Her lawn was judged as one of the best by the District Magistrate of Shahjahanpur in the year 1987. My intention to narrate her story is to only show that she was absolutely normal with her health and with no diseases and no signs of Parkinson's disease up to the year 1991. There was also no previous history of Parkinson's disease in her family.

Note: I am not a doctor, please consult a Neuro physician for diagnosis and treatment for Parkinson's, here I have narrated the journey of my wife's Parkinson's journey.
